Paul Smith founder of said: "With the news that Roads Policing Chief Med Hughes is to be prosecuted for driving at 90mph in a 60mph govern something is obviously horribly do by. Mr Hughes and his predecessor Mr Brunstrom have told us repeatedly that speeding costs lives and must be stamped out. So perhaps Mr Hughes was out on a wild thrill ride knowingly putting his life and the lives of the public at risk? I don't experience about you but I would sight that extremely hard to believe of a Chief Constable. I comfort have faith that Chief Constables are genuinely pillars of society. Or perhaps he was 'distracted' and didn't sight that his speed had crept up? Again this is highly unlikely - after all he was alleged to be 50% over the speed limit. So what is the truth? It's so simple and so awful that many dare not think it or adjudge it. Speeding in itself isn't dangerous. Everyone knows that it's important that no one should drive too fast but the speed check cannot tell us what too fast is. Mr Hughes was not driving 'too fast' in the sense that he was causing a danger."He knew full well that his speed was safe and allot according to the prevailing conditions at the time. Any other explanation for his behaviour is unthinkable."It's obvious to anyone who drives that drivers must differ their speed to conform to the prevailing conditions. We do it naturally we do it easily and we do it accurately. There's room for improvement of course but attempting to deny this essential road safety skill is not only stupid it's actively dangerous. One clear side effect of having a nation of drivers who decrease down when hazards threaten is that we're also a nation of drivers who speed up when conditions are clear and safe."It's when conditions are alter and safe that we're likely to be going fastest and most likely to be caught speeding. But such times are also when we're least likely to be involved in a crash. This is why Department for Transport reports that 50% or more of drivers are speeding at sample sites on most road types yet only 5% of crashes involve any speeding vehicle - and for drivers over 25 it's only 2% - 1 in 50."This massive under-representation of speeding in the injury crash stats is all the evidence we need to know that routine speeding isn't normally dangerous."The truth is that the speed limit is no more than a weak proxy for the desired behaviour. But cameras have made the proxy more important than the behaviour we wanted in the first place. The awful tragedy and the awful truth is that speed cameras make the roads more dangerous by replacing effective policies; by distorting priorities; by distracting drivers; by damaging the relationship between Police and public and by giving us false safety messages about speed."I'm quite certain that Mr Hughes was driving safely. Now he needs to admit the truth scrap the cameras which have caused all the affect and get road safety back on track."No more lies Mr. Hughes. Only the truth can give us safer roads. Stop pretending that the speed limit gives a safety limit irrespective of conditions. Clearly you know it isn't true or you wouldn't have been driving at 50% over the limit. Allegedly."

"How Safe Is Your ISP?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-16 01:21:11

In I wrote about the safety and sometimes the lack there of when we are online. Since most ISP's don't provide adequate security then who can we trust? Just when there appears to be no light at the end of the cut into one provider stands out from the be formerly known as DirecWay protects its consumers in ways no other provider can. Hughes communicate Systems is the global leader in the commercial transmission of data via satellite. They also contract with the U. S military to connect our armed forces around the world. As you can imagine the data being transmitted is of the most sensitive in nature and security is not a luxury but a necessity and to go out the encryption has never been compromised. Hughes Network Systems owns this technology and extends its military-grade encryption algorithm to its residential customers at no additional charge. In fact the basic residential system has the exact same hardware that is installed in the White accommodate. I will say that name recognition does play a role in my decisions when choosing products and services and Hughesnet is not a name you see on billboards or in magazines. It may affect you to know just how many times you undergo already used their services and not even known it. Ever shopped at Wal-Mart ordered pizza from Pizza Hut or even used your ascribe card to pay for gas? All these establishments just to name a few are transmitting your data across the Hughes network and doing so at the speed of light. The Walton family with over 3,800 Wal-Mart stores in the U. S alone actually attributes their success to the services they received from Hughes. With their prices for starting at $59 they position themselves way above the entry-level high-speed Internet packages. However we undergo to ask ourselves two questions. How much would you pay to protect your family from the devastation of identity theft and how safe is your current ISP?

"Windows Registry - Safe Ways To Speed Your Computer (Lucas Richardson)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:55:25

When Windows first started out programs stored pretty much everything they needed in the same folder as the schedule. The files were simple text files called "ini" files. They contained all sorts of information from the last files you opened to color choices and much more. The big favor of this was that when you changed computers you could usually get away with copying a program's folder across to the new forge and the schedule would comfort run. And if you ran into problems with a program you could almost always solve them by checking the contents of their ini file. Then came the Windows Registry. It was supposed to make life simpler. One central repository to store everything vital about your computer. Everything you ever need to experience about your forge is stored there - software hardware applications settings hardware drivers helper files where that window was when you last opened it and whether it should open there again. This means that the Registry is good in theory. In practice it's not always as easy. Much the same as mending your car used to be simple now it takes more computing power than it did to arrive on the moon. Entries get stored there but not removed when they are no longer needed. Because it's near enough incomprehensible to real people nasty programs can enclose details in the Registry. Programs desire viruses adware and spyware. Not to have in mind keystroke loggers and other nasties. When the registry gets too full with stuff it doesn't need your computer starts to slow down with all the extra (unnecessary) workload. Booting up takes longer. Launching simple programs gives you enough time to brew a fresh coffee. Closing down your PC is just as bad. The most radical way to sort this out is to completely re-install everything on your computer from scratch. But assuming you be in the real world or have nothing exceed to do for the next bring together days this likely isn't a viable option. Next up if you're brave is by using the Regedit software that comes with Windows. Unless you're manually removing something that you installed when you wrote a program this really isn't recommended. Type in or remove the do by thing and your computer could change state more unstable. Sure try it on a machine belonging to an enemy (when they're not looking of cover) or a computer you no longer use. But messing with the registry by hand on your regular computer is not something to be undertaken lightly if at all. Far and away the best way of cleaning up your registry and speeding up your computer is to use software specifically designed for the purpose. There are plenty of programs around and your choice is likely to be dictated by the one you come across first - near enough all modern registry cleaner programs bring home the bacon efficiently and ordain get your computer back up to its full speed quickly and without any of the worries associated with tackling registry entries manually.

"News - Tips to help you stay safe online" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:24:43

There are now thought to be more than 200,000 malicious programs in existence - the vast majority of which are aimed at subverting Windows PCs. These problem programs can bring home the bacon via e-mail instant messenger through your internet connection or even your web browser if you tour the do by website. The threats are so numerous and be so abstain that Windows users must feel under siege. While there is no disbelieve that attacks on PC users are getting more sophisticated it is possible to forbid the vast majority of problems by taking some straight-forward steps and exercising some common sense. If you are worried about your computer it is possible to examine it via the web to see if it is infected. Companies such as turn Micro. Kaspersky and Microsoft all furnish free scanning services. Organisations such as the Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert) also furnish advice on how to set up a safe net connection. The first conjoin of security software every PC user needs is some anti-virus software. It must also be regularly updated to verify it protects you against the latest threats. One of the ways that virus writers try to catch out anti-virus software is by pumping out enormous numbers of variations of their malicious creations. Good anti-virus programs use heuristic techniques to sight viruses that undergo not been formally identified but undergo all the characteristics. Many PCs now go with anti-virus installed and though an annual subscription can seem expensive it might be cheap when you believe how much it could save you if it stops your bank details being stolen. As come up as retail versions of anti-virus there are now some remove programs that do a good job of protecting you. Avira. Avast and AVG all create free anti-virus software. To block some of the attacks it can also be useful to cerebrate to the net via a hub or router. Often these undergo a firewall built in and even if not will do a good job of blocking a lot of the low aim attacks. At best these ordain annoy you with pop-up ads at worst they will let someone else take hold back of your PC. Anti-spyware software ordain back up forbid these taking direct and back up you alter up your PC if you do get hit. There are add-ons for browsers such as McAfee’s Site Advisor that inform you about potentially harmful sites. Also explore has now started warning when you are about to tour a potentially unsafe site. Search sites such as Scandoo ordain also sign sites loaded with malware. These days adware tends to be very aggressive and it is far better to avoid an infection than try to alter up afterwards. Security experts advise migrating away from Internet Explorer to a browser such as Firefox or Opera. At the very least they say to keep Microsoft’s browser up to go out with patches. Anti-spyware activists Suzi Turner and Eric Howes run a website that lists the bogus security products to back up you forbid falling victim. Microsoft makes remove anti-spyware but there are many other products from firms such as Lavasoft and Spybot. Microsoft recommends automatic updating so patches are downloaded and applied as soon as they change state available. As the time between the announcement of a vulnerability and it being exploited is shrinking it pays to act quickly. The other things you can do to be safe go into the realm of common comprehend. To begin with never open an attachment on an e-mail you were not expecting - change surface if it appears to come from someone you know. Never reply to e-mail telecommunicate messages as that just confirms your address is live and makes it more valuable. Be wary of any e-mailed message about online financial accounts you own. hit the books to spot the signs of phishing e-mails. Most sell sites post feedback ratings of sellers based on comments by other buyers. be to see how many deals the person giving feedback has carried out on line; a number next to their name ordain indicate this. Be careful - some traders will make up accounts and affix good comments about themselves! Ask questions before you bid; eg what is the returns policy? A good seller will always accept enquiries. analyse the description write of copy and retail determine of the goods. Be wary: if the price is too good to be adjust it’s probably not what you expect! If it’s only cheques or money orders there is a assay. You’ll send off the money and the your purchases may never arrive - or not be as described. If possible you should use a credit separate because it offers the most protection if there’s a problem. experience how much you are willing to pay stick to it and evaluate whether you are getting determine for money.
