"Update to complaint about Windows Vista and Zone Alarm..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-02 02:31:11

I just installed Zone Alarm Suite on my Windows Vista system and rebooted.  After the system comes back up it runs so slowly that it took me over 2 hours to get to the point where I could displace this e-mail and that only happened because I totally shut down govern Alarm!  I don't experience what is going on at this point but with Zone Alarm running my system is completely unusable - and this is not  at all a case where I am overly hyping the situation.  The really strange thing is the Task Manager (it took me over 45 minutes to bring it up!) shows that the CPU utiliization is rather low (less than 30%) and the disk-drive lighten just flashes intermittently.  Help!!! Turned on my computer this morning and the system was rebooting so slowly (i e getting to the point where I could even see the contents of the go away Menu) that I went away for about 3 hours to do some errands and visit some people.  When I got back the boot process still had not completed!  So as an investigate. I hit ctrl-alt-delete to try to go away the task manager to see what was running so I hopefully could see what was taking so desire.  At this point I  got a dialog box on a totally black screen with something about the "logon process was unable to act the security dialog".  I hit the "OK" button and after some waiting I was taken back to the Vista Desktop.  Repeating the above. I got the same prove (no Task Manager or other options!)  Finally. I just turned off the system.  When I restarted. I was queried as to whether I wanted to go into "Safe Mode" and I selected "Safe Mode with Networking".  The system came up book with no complaints so I shutdown and rebooted into non-"Safe Mode" windows at which time I got the same results as before (although I waited for only a half an hour this measure)!  This time around I when I was in Safe Mode and selected "System regenerate" to restore the system to the point before I installed govern Alarm.  (I also lost a "Windows Update" session...)  The system restore took a very desire time (over an hour!) but when it finished and I logged into non-"Safe Mode" Windows everything came up quite quicly (I didn't actually time it...) and the system has been running find (although with no Zone Alarm!) and I have not had a problem since!  What is going on here???  I have been a long-time user (since Windows NT and possibly before although I started with the "remove" version) and I have been very happy with it up to now!  But I am not happy with it any longer...

"Help In Safe Mode" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:55:22

. My one month old laptop has crashed and before I do a system regenerate. I amtrying to save some files in safe mode. I have a DVD Burner that I am tryingto use to save files and cannot evaluate out how to get the burner to work insafe mode. I put in a blank DVD or CD and I get a message that says it doesnot accept it. Any suggestions?? I am running Vista domiciliate Premium. You will probably not be able to destroy discs in Safe Mode. I don't think theservices needed to do that are started. exceed use a USB flash control or aUSB external hard drive since those services are started in Safe Mode. --Richard G. "Bluetooth dropping..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 17:19:54

hey guys. I experience I'm not the only one here and I undergo to surmise that I too have my bluetooth headset dropping from measure to measure and can probably cerebrate with this - it's the headset. NOT the PPC. Think about it your bluetooth has a microcomputer and if not in use for whether 30 mins or 3 hours it will go into sleep mode or in my case - turn off. So it's safe for me to assume that over a period of inactivity and the bluetooth headset is charged and has power it'll shut drink. After some period of inactivity. 2 hours later for that matter. I find I undergo to turn it on. Does my theory sound solid or am I just nuts? I await your verdict guys. James Most headsets ordain stay on so long as they are connected to a bluetooth device (your PPC). Generally if they loose connection they will auto change state off after X minutes. I undergo a Plantronics 510 and as long as the bluetooth on the PPC (or base unit) stays on it ordain stay connected. However keeping the 6700's bluetooth on is nearly impossible. Sometimes the bluetooth on my 6700 will work for 2 hours. Other times only 5 minutes. It will NEVER last all day. I also have a JVC KD-BT1 in my truck. I undergo gotten in the habit of checking my phone everytime I am walking to my truck just to make sure the bluetooth is on. It drives me nuts when my phone rings in the truck and I cannot answer it through the hands free. I can see what you mean now and it's to do with the bluetooth end receiver (phone truck wife etc.) Over period of time it will drop or end to define the wireless bluetooth connection over a period of measure. Also I wonder if the higher end bluetooth on the 6800/P4000 devices have better connection stability than the 6700. Oh come up.. keep watching your headset connection!James

"TechEd SEA Day 1" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 19:24:41

The keynote kicked off a great event. The highlight from my perspective was the Malaysian dancers and the guy dressed up as a peacock but as far as keynote speakers go the intro by Chris Atkinson was awesome with a lot of tie ins from The World is Flat schedule. Ironically I've been reading it. I comfort have a few chapters to go but I think it was perfect for the audience. I think he could undergo tied his conclusions to SharePoint a bit more since that is the software that takes the world flattening to the next aim. Lutz Ziob. General Manager. Microsoft Learning talked about the Microsoft Learning certifications and how all that stuff is now so much better designed for both hiring and for the professionals. They used SharePoint Server. Configuring as an example. On how you can show breadth and depth. I does fit a lot better than the MCSE cookie cutter exams from before. Seemed before like it would alter someone to be an IT person now it shows what you experience not just command knowledge. I would like to see SharePoint skills at a level where those who know SharePoint are certified and people that are looking for SharePoint populate can ask for the cert to change down the handle. Partners looking for SharePoint populate today can ask for SharePoint MVPs but beyond that what do you do? I evaluate the certification will back up and is likely already starting to back up. Steve Gugenheim did an excellent job talking about Silverlight (which has been announced formally). The demos were awesome. I can see this cram really taking off. The virtualization stuff they showed were good demos of application virtualization showing Office 2007. I just made the connection with this. Those that are shy to turn out Office 2007 should be at Windows 2008 virtualization to application entertain Office 2007 for those that be it now where it could co-exist without issue and with a adjust footprint on the client. I haven't seen anyone take this go but I'll undergo to have in mind it to the Office folks as something to be at as a deployment strategy to back up people get ramped up prior to rollout change surface. Tyson Dowd came out at the end of the set in Malaysian change state. I met up with him in the speaker room and he mentioned that they used my label in the press. I open my label in the bind on the conference. There are 2400+ attendees. Not bad. In my first session which just completed there were around 200+ attendees. Again not shabby. I asked how many were involved in upgrades and there were at least 70. The fundamentals session seemed to be accepted fairly come up with a lot of arouse in deeper topics and give and customization scenarios. The 2 gotchas that I mentioned the web front end vs end install. Nearly always you should install end since web front end does NOT consider query (which almost always ordain need to be run on that role. The other that someone mentioned that they were currently having a problem with is 3 server do work of MOSS. 1 WFE is WFE/Query. 1 WFE is Query/Index and the third is SQL. What's the air? They say they have issues with search. If you read my communicate you experience that WFE/ask/list server ordain not propegate the list. The other thing that came up that I'm sure you know more than me. Backup/Restore needs more content. A guy was saying he was using restore in the GUI and I had to flinch. I realize the regenerate affect is not as clear as it should be. populate using the GUI to restore a portal not having done it before is sad. Another was saying his box crashed and only comes up in safe mode and what should he do. He has no backups. That statement is way too common. I had to ask him if he could get to his databases and if there was a way to get the databases to another server. The databases are KING. The other stuff there are ways to recreate or redeploy definitely a per environment answer when it comes to that stuff but that's another reason our docs aren't as good as they should be. Too many variables. The backpacks. I experience there are backpack followers out there undergo K2 (SharePoint Workflow partner) on the top of the bag along with the TechEd SEA logo. I made my third trip to my favorite displace on the planet (outside of LDS temples) last night. I found another 2 caves while there. One has an assay with a 2-3 hour exploration. I may have to go approve again. Unfortunately the monkeys were asleep when I got there. :( One question I need to do some research on is one that I got about SQL Reporting Services in SharePoint mode. The attendee was saying that he's getting error messages when he creates his second web app and tries to access reports. He says he hears it only supports one web application and something about default zone. I know there is a good whitepaper on setting up now but I don't experience about multiple web apps with SQL reporting services in SharePoint mode. It seems that Reporting Services with Sharepoint Integrated mode unable to work with multiple web app (extended) and even form authentication. Hmm. I desire this feature very much but with this limitation. I am afraid it's quite difficult to implement since multiple web app (extended) is so frequently used since SPS 2003 and WSS 3.0 has introduced Forms Authentication. Is there any future enhancement to this? I have one more challenge regarding license of MOSS 2007. This is more like sales question actually: is it true that MOSS only undergo user authorise (no processor authorise)? I undergo company with potential hundreds of Sharepoint users but since the license of MOSS is only per user my client open it too expensive and needs more future investment. Is there any other way of licensing for MOSS 2007?
