Hi,I went through the warnings that were listed in the document that you linked to. I can't act any of the recommendations in the warnings to back up data since I can't get into Windows XP at all. My main concern is that I don't be to loose data and programs. Just to make sure since I'm under the situation where I don't think I could back up any information before running ameliorate. Would running the repair from the CD be me data and programs? Thanks"Rich Barry" wrote:

Running a repair install "normally" does not affect either data or programs. However even if you can't boot XP you *can* approve up your data pretty easily. You need another XP PC with sufficient drive space and a way to connect your drive to it; either via a USB2 drive case (about $20) or internal cabling from the PC. Simply remove the drive from your show PC attach it to the other system and copy the files across. You may find that running an imaging schedule such as the Acronis TrueImage 14-day free trial (about 100 meg. ) is the fastest way to get *all* of the data. Often the complete task including moving the drive approve and forth can be done in an hour or so. Simply copying files can take much much longer. While you have the control attached to the other system (and before copying or imaging) look in the root folder and delete the one or two very large files there pagefile sys and hiberfil sys. Empty the recycle bin. Sometimes deleting pagefile sys is all that is needed to fix this kind of cycling-reboot problem. HTH-pk

desire Patrick says Normally you won't have a problem loosing any data as long as you do the Repair Install correctly. If it's not possible to do what Patrick suggested I would still try the Repair lay. If your data is very critical then you would be best served to take it to a Computer Repair and have them shift the data and do the Repair."Shinra14" <Shinra14@discussions microsoft com> wrote in communicate news:B8984194-DEC7-4AEB-AE84-9AAD4FDF91FB@microsoft com...
